  • Colors of the Rainbow

March was not only about the color green, but we also studied the rainbow! We talked about how a rainbow is made and which colors make up the rainbow. Below you can see all of the rainbow color sorting we did! Sorting by color is a skill we incorporate a lot with our toddler learners. It practices color recognition and matching.

Some of the toys in our centers and sensory bins were also rainbow-themed. We love to see them learning through play!

Of course we had to do some rainbow art projects. We read the book “What Makes a Rainbow” by Betty Schwartz and then made our own rainbow using ribbon and a fluffy cloud. This was a challenging art project for our little learners and they did an excellent job with it!

  • Rainbow Distance Learning

Distance Learning is off to a terrific start!  Rainbow activities filled the bag last week and the toddlers had so much fun sorting, coloring, and eating 🙂

    Fruit Loop Sorting Mat

After sorting into colors the toddler plans suggested a fun rainbow snack.  This activity requires knowing colors, fine motor stringing, and using all the senses!

A rainbow name building activity was included in the bag of materials as well!

The weather provided some time to practice drawing rainbows with chalk outside.

Also included in the grid were several links to story time with Ms. Kristen, group time, and fun movement activities that we have done at school!

It is so fun to see our families working with our school to help these toddlers learn and grow!  Stay tuned to see our toddlers in action using the activities and materials included in Distance Learning packet Week 2!

  • Somewhere Over The Rainbow

From rainbows to pot’s of gold, the PM preschool class fully embraced the St. Patrick’s Day theme this past week!

We made our own rainbow snacks!

We went on a gold hunt and matched uppercase/ lowercase letters!

We participated in a letter identification and hand strength activity by feeding our “tennis ball people” gold coins and naming the letters on each coin. We love to incorporate multiple objectives into one lesson!

Another multiple objective lesson: counting and fine motor!

We played “roll, count and graph” using rainbow jelly beans!

    S is for skittles!

  • Learning at the Speed of Light

We have been exploring and learning all about light in the K Prep classroom. We made our own rainbows with water, light and a mirror.  We experimented with the meaning of translucent and non translucent.  We tested out some of our theories by pointing a flashlight at the different objects to see if the light shined through!  We also explored shadows and how they move as the light moves.  We concluded our exploration by going outside to trace our friends’ shadow on a beautiful sunny day.
