  • Bugs and Garden Exploration!

We were busy bugs in the Studio Toddler classroom in April! We learned about how plants grow, made our own name gardens and played in garden sensory bins for some hands on learning. We also sorted bugs by color and made our own bugs in a jar craft using buttons and coloring grass for the bugs!

  • Learning Through Sensory Play!

On Friday in Preschool, we covered our table with shaving cream and worked on pre-writing! Sensory play supports language, development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills and social interaction!

  • Sensory Fun: Playdoh

Sensory play is extremely important for children to engage in!  It allows them to learn and explore in a way that allows them to be successful.  There are many things in life, especially at school where children can do things in a “right way” and a “wrong way.”  Sensory play can be whatever a child wants it to be, and they can just be creative and have fun!  Sensory play is also a great way to engage in learning and allows children to engage in multiple senses.  When this occurs, children are able to learn more!  Playdoh is a great resource and one that we use frequently in preschool.  We mold it into shapes, letters and numbers and while we do this we are feeling the material, seeing the material become something specific and learning while having fun.  We can squish it, roll it, squeeze it, and flatten it which helps us work our hand muscles.

  • Winter White!

We had a great month of January exploring with our winter color of “white”, in several different ways! One day, we made “snow” play-dough. Another day, our friends frosted a cookie, used chocolate covered raisins for eyes and noses, marshmallows for ears, and voilà, a polar bear cookie treat! Finally, a good sensory activity that our friends love is playing with shaving cream! The messier, the better!
