  • January Happenings in Preschool Prep

We have had a great January so far. Below are some of the activities we have been doing in our class this month!

We love making art that can tie into our letter of the week, building on our motor skills, and/or practicing using our different art materials such as a glue stick, holding a paint brush properly, or practicing safe scissor skills. Sometimes we do free art, and sometimes we do art in which our preschool prep learners are following step by step directions.

We also like to use items in our art to make for a different sensory experience. We painted with legos to reinforce our shape of the month, rectangle, to make an igloo. We also used white paint to reinforce our color, too! We used oranges to paint with the color orange, because orange begins with the letter “O”.

N is for Noodles + Numbers! We had a fun sensory bin using colored noodles and talked about the different characteristics of the noodles. Were they warm or cold? What colors were they? Did they feel slimy, sticky, dry? We also went on a number scavenger hunt in our classroom!

  • Learning Colors and Shapes with Penguins!

The studio toddlers had a penguin party, using penguins to help us match colors. They had to match the penguin’s hat to the color scarf the penguin was wearing. Sometimes our friends will choose a color on their own, and then they try to name the color for us. Other times we will direct them to a specific color to try and challenge them to find colors they may not know as well as others.

In our other small group, we used our shape of the month, triangle, to make a penguin of our own! Here, our learners follow 1 and 2 step directions to complete the activity.

  • If You Give a Moose a Muffin

Happy 2017 from the toddler room! The transition back from holiday break has been so smooth, and we are so excited to have all of our friends back with us!

We have started off the month of January with focus on the letter “M” this week. We read the book, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, and made our very own chocolate chip muffins!

We practiced taking turns, and sitting for longer periods of time. We followed directions and used our recipe to help guide us along! A lot of our ingredients are white, which is perfect because we are learning about the color white this month! Check out our muffin-making process below.

  • Preschool Science Day: The Pond Habitat

    1 2

Pond water was murky and cloudy and gross!

    3

What is all that green stuff floating around? Algae!

    4 5 6

Cat tails were fun to break open.  They are so soft and fuzzy.

    7 8

We learned how lily pads are covered with a waxy coating, like wax paper, that’s why they float!

    9

Time to make our very own Pond Habitat!  First the water, then the algae, then the cat tails!

  • Preschool Science Day: Red-eared Slider Turtle

    1

With our study of Ponds well under way, it was time to learn about a turtle!!!

    2 3 4

The Red-eared Slider Turtle made a trip to our classroom.  They don’t have any teeth or saliva.  Their shells are different than a Painted Turtle.

    6

    “I see it’s red ears!!!”

    7 8 9 10

We drew a big circle to make our turtle’s shell.

    11 12 13

We are so excited to take home out Red-eared Slider.  Be sure to ask your kiddos some fun facts!

  • Little Pilgrim Boy Guided Drawing

The children participated in a guided drawing activity this week.  This activity focused on listening and following step by step directions as the children drew their own little pilgrim boy.  We have been learning about the pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.  Ask your child what they have learned!
