  • All About Red Crabs!

We learned all about crabs today!  Our focus was on the Red Crab that travel to lay their eggs in the ocean.  We watched a video clip showing the thousands of crabs making the trip to the ocean and doing their “egg laying shimmy.”  We practiced our very best sideways crab walk and a little egg laying shimmy.  Ask your pre-ker to show you!  We then read a fun book by Ruth Galloway called Clumsy Crab.  Ms. Lori helped us make our very own Clumsy Crabs to add to our classroom decor.

  • 3-D Shape Mystery Box

The children were introduced to 3-D shapes this month:  Cube, cone, sphere, cylinder.  They reached into the mystery box and used their sense of touch to identify the attributes of the shape inside and ultimately the name of the shape.  They did a wonderful job!

After reading out reading group book, Can You See the Skunk?, we found the sight word stamps that matched the words in our book.  Then we stamped them on our paper and wrote the words.

  • Valentine’s Day Excitement!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  These little heart breakers had a love-filled morning with our Valentine activities.  Using our color recognition and sorting skills, the boys and girls sorted their very own box of candy hearts on their candy heart graphs.  Ask your little valentine how all of the hearts were sorted.  The children then had the opportunity to pass out their Valentine’s to each child.  The boys and girls really enjoyed celebrating friendships!

  • Sounds Make Words

We have been discovering sounds in words the past few weeks: recognizing initial sounds, ending sounds, and counting sounds in words.  Sounding out unknown words is a piece to the puzzle that will help us develop as great readers!

  • Valentine Delivery

Pre-Kers have been making Valentines for their friends in the Writing Center this month and have been mailing them in our classroom mailbox.  But of course we need someone to deliver our cards…who will be the mail “man” or “woman” tomorrow?

  • Art Study with Ms. Penny

We studied the artist, Franz Marc, with Ms. Penny and tried our hand at our own colorful creations!  They are a great addition to our Great Barrier Reef!
