  • Balloon Rockets

We have been talking about rocketships blasting into space and doing many countdowns as a class!  This afternoon we experimented with a balloon, straw, and piece of string during group time.  We asked the question “what do you think will happen if I blew up this balloon attached to the straw and then let it go?” balloon rocket 010 We balloon rocket 013

  • Who’s In the Present?

    presents 209

Today during group time we played a game called “Who’s in the Present?”  ALl of the children had to close their eyes while one child was picked to go inside of the present.  When they heard “open your eyes!”, they couldn’t wait to look around and try and figure out who was missing from the group! If they were having a hard time, they got a clue if it was a boy or a girl.  When they made their final guess, we turned the present around to find out who was inside!  This was the highlight of their afternoon!  All we kept hearing was “Can we do it again!!”

A turkey is a funny bird

The children have been using bright and beautiful water colors to create turkey feathers.  This week we have been talking about the Thanksgiving holiday and they couldn’t wait to create their own turkeys! Here is a song we have been singing that you can try to sing at home!

(to the tune of “Pop Goes the Weasel”)

  • B is for Balloon!

Today the children were introduced to the letter “B” on Dorthy’s fish bowl!  We then brought out the special letter “B” bag and sang a song about things that start with the letter “B”.  The children’s favorite part was watching Miss Sarah blow up a Balloon and then letting it go!

  • What is Your Favorite Farm Animal?

    Letter B 038

name recognition using our farm theme this week

This afternoon during group time we created a graph about farm animals.  After reading a story about the farm and talking about the different sounds farm animals make, it was time to talk about our favorite animals!  Each child had a turn to come up to the board and put their name under their favorite animal.  What a joy it was for them to put their special person up on the board!  After the graph was finished, we counted how many children liked each animal.  Using their name recognition people is a wonderful way for them to start recognizing their names as well!

  • Our Friend Mr. Scarecrow

This afternoon during group time, we used our friend Mr. Scarecrow to talk about shapes!  The kids each had a turn to come up to the scarecrow and choose a shape from his clothes.  We talked about the color and shape that each child was holding.

  • Spooky Scissor Skills

IMG_2193 The Preschool class had a great time today working together to make our class pumpkin and bat, but it was no easy task! We had one very large white pumpkin and an oversized white bat that needed coloring in, however we didn’t use crayons, markers, or paint for this job! We got out our scissor and started snipping away at strips of orange and black paper. Each time we made a snip with our scissors we were able to add a small piece of color to our pumpkin and bat. Leaving a patch of white was out of the question, so the preschoolers put their developing fine motor skills to the test and worked very hard at getting the color just right. The PreK class was happy to help in finishing up during their afternoon class. It was a TEAM effort by all and we had a great time making them!

learning about "going to the doctor" this week

Today at group time we talked about going to the doctor and looked at all of the different things doctors use to help us feel better.  Miss Sarah played doctor and Jack got to come up to be the patient.  He loved getting his blood pressure taken and couldn’t wait for me to listen to his heart beat!
