We learned all about crabs today! Our focus was on the Red Crab that travel to lay their eggs in the ocean. We watched a video clip showing the thousands of crabs making the trip to the ocean and doing their “egg laying shimmy.” We practiced our very best sideways crab walk and a little egg laying shimmy. Ask your pre-ker to show you! We then read a fun book by Ruth Galloway called Clumsy Crab. Ms. Lori helped us make our very own Clumsy Crabs to add to our classroom decor.
After reading out reading group book, Can You See the Skunk?, we found the sight word stamps that matched the words in our book. Then we stamped them on our paper and wrote the words.
Toddlers begin with parallel play (Parallel play is characterized by children playing the same game next to each other but with very little interaction). As they turn 2 1/2 to 3 they begin playing with the same thing next to each other and talking, but not yet working together to create something. This is called associative play. It is so exciting to see this beginning in our class
!
We used the small motor muscles in our hands and fingers throughout our small group activities to help prepare for our future of writing!
The kids have been working hard on the artwork that will be used in the Fashion Show on March 11th. Just a sneak peek!
Pre-Kers have been making Valentines for their friends in the Writing Center this month and have been mailing them in our classroom mailbox. But of course we need someone to deliver our cards…who will be the mail “man” or “woman” tomorrow?
