We continue our “Play, Create, and Explore”week with milk/food coloring art, edible finger paint, and colored hair gel in ziplock bags. Lots of messy activities and hands-on experiences –which we love!! Take a peek at our day:

This week during group time, the Toddlers enjoyed the book, Eating the Alphabet by Lois Ehlert. To go with the book the boys and girls explored vegetables during small group. They made vegetable prints by stamping broccoli, corn, carrots, and peppers on their paper. We were sure to wear our art smocks because the painting got a little messy!
During the month of March, we will be going over name recognition as well as reviewing our colors (in the rainbow). Today the boys and girls took turns finding their name by adding rainbow sand on top of glue. They used their fine motor skills to scoop and dump assorted sand over their paper. Once all of the colors were added, the child’s name magically appeared!
We explored the property of heat during our science lab today. We made predictions about what would happen to both a marshmallow and a bar of ivory soap if we added heat. We used our classroom microwave to conduct our experiment and look at our results…WOW!
The Toddlers have been strengthening their fine motor skills. The boys and girls used clothespins to move pom poms into colored cups. The children worked on color recognition and sorting… they did a great job!
We watched our water color travel through the winding paths of salt we created on our black paper. Some of the colors blended to create new colors.
The Toddlers had a great day filled with turkey fun! To celebrate the upcoming holiday of Thanksgiving, the boys and girls spent their day adding noodle “feathers” to turkeys and read stories about Thanksgiving day. We had a cookie decorating party for snack! The children added fall colored icing and sprinkles and then enjoyed their creations!
This month, the Toddlers have been exploring the theme of nature. We have talked about how the leaves change colors as the seasons turn. The boys and girls used their fine motor skills to stamp red, yellow, and orange leaves all over their trees.
One of our monthly objectives for November is matching. The boys and girls have lots of opportunities throughout the day to show off their matching skills wether it be during group time or exploring at the manipulatives center. Today the children took turns matching woodland animals during small groups. They did a great job sorting by shape, color, and animal.
