Our PreSchool Blog

We are all readers and all writers at any age.  In pre-K we will begin introducing proper letter formation for upper and lowercase letters throughout the school year.  It’s important to start with the basics of lines…curves, zig zag, straight, and slanted.  As we become familiar with the language of letter formation we will begin putting these lines together to properly form letters.  Written word is a powerful tool that we use every day and we are well on our way to becoming a classroom of writers!  For pre-writing printables you can do with your child at home click on the first picture below.  

We’ve made an addition to our classroom library this year….big books!  We learned how to take care of our big books and how to turn those BIG pages from the bottom corner without ripping them so they last us a very long time!  You can check out big books from the local library.  Great tip for those little ones who are reluctant to read read read!

We made it through orientation week!! It has been a fun week with a lot of exploration and hands-on activities. Check out a few photos from today!

I have been so impressed with how quickly our early 3’s class is picking up the routines and procedures for our classroom. Today, the children were very attentive during whole group time, and they interacted magnificently! During small group time they learned how to properly use the play house and the items in the house. They worked on one-to-one correspondence in the Early 3’s manipulative center. They also painted Labor Day fireworks with pipe cleaners, paint, and glitter. We are continuing to work on our snack time procedures and learning to wait until everyone is seated and the song has been sung before we eat our snack. At the end of the day I played the guitar, and we sang the ABC song a couple times to begin to prepare for the upcoming weeks and months of learning letters.

Your children have done so well this week, and I am excited for what this year has in store for us!!!

Today the preschoolers learned the rules of our centers during free choice time. Ask your little one how we use clips in our classroom and which center is their favorite!

Another fun day in the toddler room! The children are continuing to explore the room and the centers within our room. The new train table is definitely a new favorite. The children have been building up their gross motor skills as they play outside on our playground. They had a blast with the bubbles and drawing on the chalk board this morning. Enjoy the little sneak peek of our day!

We had a great second day in the early 3’s class! We worked on lining up –and they are quickly learning how to do this! I’m so proud of them! We practiced listening for a “quiet signal” prompt and responding correctly. In small group time, one group of children painted on foil –a fun sensory art activity. Another group of children learned how to play at the kitchen center –knowing how to properly use the center will advance their dramatic play development. The other group learned how to use the learning activities in the Early 3’s center. One of the activities we focused on is a sorting colors and shapes activity.
