Today, Ms. Joanie visited our morning and afternoon classes!! We had so much fun playing instruments and singing along with her! We also got to “act out” the “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” by bouncing a stuffed monkey on a gold sheet.

Happy Birthday to Georgia!! We celebrated with cupcakes in the afternoon class.
Our Pre-K Class birthday bear made his first trip home this week! I can’t wait to read what an adventure he had as he helped celebrate our first birthday in the class!
We read Somewhere in the Ocean by Jennifer Ward today and discovered the beautiful Jellyfish! We watched a video about the Lion’s Mane Jellyfish and the Common Jellyfish. Click the pictures of the Jellyfish below to view the videos we watched in class, again!
We have reached week 3 of our school year!! Yay!! Today the children listened to a read aloud called “All About You.” We talked about where we live, what we wear, who we live with, what we eat, etc. The children are currently learning the color red and the letter “R.” During group time, I had a bin with various items, and the children had to identify which items were red. During small groups, we painted rainbows (for the letter “R”) for our ABC book we will be working on throughout the year. They also painted a muffin tin and printed it on paper for the art show in March. The children worked on our numbers for the month (number recognition 1-3). They also practiced one-to-one correspondence and fine motor skills with pipe cleaners and colanders. The playground has a new feature that the children absolutely LOVE: a sandbox!! (Muffin Tin Art: Art Show Piece)

We had a fantastic start to our third week of school! In the toddler room we are learning the color red and the letter “R.” We are learning the ABC song and practicing sitting at group time. The children had fun working on their art show pieces: painting muffin tins and printing them on paper. A new addition to our playground is a huge sandbox!!! The children LOVE playing in it!! Fine Motor Development is an extremely important skill at the preschool level. Fine Motor skills serve as a strong foundation for handwriting development and letter formation. Strengthening these little muscles take a lot of work and practice.
This month in preschool we are focusing on the letters Aa, Bb, Cc. Today during small groups we played Alphabet Coverup to practice our letters. Each preschooler has a Alphabet Coverup game board in their homework folder. This is a great tool for all kinds of learning fun. This morning, I wrote A, a, B, b, C, c on the board. This is an easy way to practice letter recognition and letter sounds. Have fun with your preschooler practicing letters!
We were so excited to see Ms Joanie today for the first time this year! She brought along some of her instruments and a new song about the ocean. What a perfect way to start our study of the Great Barrier Reef!
Children who grow up hearing music, singing songs, and moving to the beat are enjoying what experts call “a rich sensory environment.” That’s just a fancy way of saying they’re exposed to a wide variety of tastes, smells, textures, colors, and sounds. And researchers believe this forges more pathways between the cells in their brains.
Musical experiences are an important way to help create these pathways, also called neural connections. And while listening to music is certainly key to creating them, it’s when children actively participate in music that they make the strongest connections.

Our class is traveling to the Great Barrier Reef this month as we visit Australia during our country studies. After learning about the difference between an octopus and a squid, we dove straight into our small math groups today and worked on number recognition and one to one correspondence.
