We started our unit this week about Farm Harvests! After reading the book, The Little Red Hen by Jerry Pinky, we watched as a real farmer harvested his fields of wheat and transported them to the silo in a gravity wagon. The big machines were fun to watch! We hit the kitchen and made our own homemade bread and we made sure to all help so that we could all enjoy the delicious snack when it came out of the oven!
Today we made apple print paintings!! The children had fun swishing the apple in paint then pressing it onto the paper.
We stayed so busy during early 3’s today that I forgot to take many photos!! We had a lot of fun learning how our new centers work. The photos below are from our sensory table. The children LOVE playing with the animals in the corn and dry oatmeal. Today during group time we practiced our name recognition skills. The children are quickly learning to recognize their name and the letters in their name! I’m excited to see how fast they are progressing!

Today we made colorful owls!! We had a lot of fun choosing the colors for the wings and beaks, and we got to choose the type of eyes we wanted our owl to have. We also enjoyed the discovery station with rice and a variety of orange items (our color of the month) to explore. In group time we talked about animals that are on a farm and the noises that each animal makes.
We definitely had a lot of fun exploring all of our new centers this morning. There is now a “Farmer’s Market” (which replaced the kitchen) and a light table!! Both new centers were a hit! We also have a wide variety of farm themed manipulatives and toys to go along with this month’s theme.
Today in the Early 3’s class we had a lot of fun exploring our new centers for the month of October!! So many new things to try and explore!! We now have a light table in our room!! We also have a “Farmer’s Market.” In one of our small groups today, we made “O” is for “Owl” by gluing feathers onto a brown “O.” Our alphabet book is growing!! I cannot wait for you all to see the finished product at the end of the year! 🙂 In another small group we continued working on our pre-writing and fine-motor skills by holding a crayon and drawing a line from one sticker to another. In another small group, we worked on our number recognition and fine motor skills. We rolled balls of play dough and placed the correct number of play dough balls with the corresponding number.

The Children’s Museum Center visited our classroom today to share their Coral Reef: A Colorful Community Program on Wheels.
The children learned what coral is, where it lives, what it eats and how it protects itself. We explored different types of real coral skeletons, experienced how a coral polyp feels and viewed pictures of some of the creatures that live in a coral reef. Using beautiful puppets, everyone participated in making a coral reef habitat come to life!
