We focused on independent letter formation and orientation during our sight word study today. What an amazing job they did! I’m so very proud of their hard work and perseverance. They are on their way to becoming independent writers ready for Kindergarten.
We learned about constellations during group time today and found them on the smartboard in the night sky. Then, we used our developing fine motor skills to carefully poke holes along our sight words with a small toothpick to create our own constellation.
We started our week with sorting our sight words from last week and our new ones for this week! This activity not only focused on sight word recognition, but required the ability to follow multi step directions, sorting, and fine motor skills for cutting, pasting and manipulating the small pieces of paper.
The preschoolers practiced their listening skills, direction following abilities, and number recognition this morning. This is a simple way to practice at home. Write numbers and letters on a sheet of paper and ask your little one to circle something, trace it, cross it out, underline, etc. Have fun with it!

Today we continued our exploration of the rainbow by making our own water bottle rainbow. I had 6 bottles of water on a table. I asked the children to look at the picture of the rainbow in front of the table to tell me which color comes first. They would tell me, then I would put the corresponding color of food coloring into the bottle. The children were VERY interested and engaged in the activity!

This is our new name activity that the children do when they first come to class. They have to use their fine motor and matching skills to match up each bottle cap with a letter on it to the corresponding letter on the rainbow.

In this group we practiced our writing skills by learning to hold a pencil and write letters. We worked on a variety of letters while using our fine motor skills.

In this group, we practiced our number recognition for numbers 7-10. The children had to identify the number on the top of their pipe cleaner, then string the corresponding amount of beads onto their pipe cleaner. –another good fine motor activity.

This group was our art group where we made handprint leprechauns! Check out the cute results!!
Today we painted rainbow hands for art! We also played with rainbow rice as a fun sensory and fine motor activity! During group time, we talked about our color of the month: green. I had five different colored monkeys (for the “5 Little Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed” song), and I would pull one out and have him “bounce on the bed”. Then I would ask the children what color he was. Monkey #5 was the GREEN MONKEY! (we were very excited to finally find the one that was the color of the month). Check out the fun and colors from our day!

The preschoolers traced their names this morning. We learned proper letter formation and practiced letter sounds. We focused on using the correct grip and recognizing our own names.
We know it’s different in the summer. It is time for vacation. Visits to the lake house, the beach . . . home-improvement projects. That’s why we offer our special summer programs for our students. Activity themes that change weekly allow you to come and go as you please over the summer months. Sign-up for one week or all of them as your child will have the opportunity to become a petite chef, paint like Van Gogh or sing and dance with recording artist Miss Joanie. Whatever you choose, they are sure to have fun. Who knows? They may even learn something along the way.
