  • Sweet 16

During the month of March, we have been working on the numbers 15 and 16.  With counting to 15 and 16, working on our number recognition and one-to-one correspondence, the children have been hard at work.  Today, Ms. Lori had the children do all of the above by writing the number 16, counting stickers and then sticking them, one by one, onto corresponding dots.

  • Fingerprint Fanatics

Writing our name in new and exciting ways helps keep children motivated to practice writing their names correctly.  Today, Ms. Courtney showed the boys and girls how to use a stamp pad to write their names.  Stamping each letter to mimic the direction that it is written, reinforces the proper way to write, along with the way we read (left to right, top to bottom).

  • Scissor Specialists

The fine motor skills that Creative Tots preschoolers are capable of is impressive!  These boys and girls have begun to master the skill of cutting.  It is not an easy task, but the children are beginning to follow the lines, as well as realize that moving your hand to grasp the paper at better angles makes the cutting easier.  Check out our very own scissor specialists!

  • What Do You Know About Toucans?

    Did you know…

    • Toucans are one of the loudest birds in the rainforest
    • Their diet consists primarily of fruit, nuts and seeds
    • Their colorful bill is used to reach fruit on branches that are too small to support their weight
    • Their bill is filled with air, which makes it more for show, rather than a combative tool.

  • Patternpillars

As we continue on with our rainforest unit, we have discovered all different kinds of animals that live in the different layers.  Today, we used pom poms to make a pattern to create our very own, unique caterpillar.  Using an ABABAB pattern, the children chose two colors to make their pattern.

  • Letter “O” Pot O’ Gold

We had a top ‘o the morning by filling our bucket with the /o/ sound.  All of the animals that we glued onto our picture began with the short /o/ sound.  The children had a jolly ole’ time practicing the /o/ sound!

  • Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Did you wear your green today??  Our room was full of green, white and yellow as we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.  Our day started off with a visit from a wee little leprechaun who left us not only a highly guarded pot ‘o gold, but some leprechaun dust, his shoes and hat!!  We never did find him, but we sure enjoyed a piece of his chocolate coins.  Here are some fun facts about St. Patrick’s Day:

-Leprechauns stem from Irish folktale.  In Ireland, they are not associated with St. Patrick, which makes leprechauns an Americanized symbol of St. Patrick’s Day.

    -St. Patrick is actually English.

-March 17 is the day of St. Patrick’s death, hence St. Patrick’s Day.
