  • Native American Celebration Day

Today the preschoolers had a very exciting day with a special visitor and celebration. We learned about the act of storytelling and listened to Dancing Moon and her helper, Bright Rainbow, share a story with a very valuable lesson.

The preschoolers enjoyed peeking into the lives of Native American children. We learned all about the importance of corn. The children husked and enjoyed corn on the cob just like Native Americans daily meals. Ask your preschooler the Native American word for corn!

Arrowheads, spears, and bow and arrows were big hits this morning. The children loved learning about Native American weapons and materials they used to hunt and feed their families.

  • Fine Motor Fun!

All about those fine motor muscles this morning!

The preschoolers had fun finger painting. They explored how to make different colors and experienced their senses by feeling the paint between their fingers and on the paper.

Changing writing surfaces is a great way to develop fine motor muscles. Through out the week using our Handwriting Without Tears program the preschools write on paper, chalkboards, white dry erase boards, dry erase letter blocks, and the smartboard. Today the preschoolers worked on the letters we have learned so far this year on chalkboards.

  • Art Show 2011

We were astounded at the turnout at our art show again this year.  The children have been working so hard over the past two months on all of their masterpieces and we were so excited to see all of the families come out and celebrate their accomplishments with them!  It’s amazing what children can accomplish when given the opportunity and the right tools.  We are so very proud of each and every one of them.  It was their night to shine and we were honored to be a part of if.  A BIG thank you to Ms. Penny who helped create such wonderful art experiences for our students in the preschool and pre-k classes. Her enthusiasm and excitement for teaching children about art and the famous artists that came before us sparks the imagination of our young students in a way that makes them feel like anything is possible at any age.

  • Sponge Painting with Squares

We introduced our shape of the month this morning during small groups. The preschoolers counted the sides of a square and used square sponges to cover their square picture. We played ‘I Spy Squares’ and searched for squares all over our classroom. Play ‘I Spy Squares’ at home with your little one, see how many squares you can discover!

  • What would you bring on the Mayflower?

Today in Pre-K we explored further into the lives of pilgrims. We learned about their hard journey on the Mayflower and decided what we would bring if we had to make the trip to a new land.

We strengthened our fine motor muscles by using stickers to fill the capital M. We discussed and learned more about the Mayflower today.
