  • Seed Graphing

Friday we read Up, Down and Around by Katherine Ayres . We discovered all kinds of different seeds just in time for Summer!  At small groups the boys and girls used their sorting skills and separated their own bag of seeds based on shape and size. Then they glued each seed onto their seed graph and was able to see how many of each seed they had. What a fun way to learn about seeds and sorting! 51uTdP0EZyL__SS400_

  • Planting a Rainbow

With spring in full swing, we took time today to talk about rainbows! During group time we  read Planting a Rainbow  by Lois Ehlert and reviewed all the colors in the rainbow. Then the children went on a scavenger hunt looking for different objects that were red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple! After recognizing all the colors in the rainbow, we fired up our fine motor skills and used Q-Tips to dot paint all the colors. The boys and girls did a great job painting a rainbow!

  • Jump Frog Jump!

Today we read Jump Frog Jump by Robert Kalan.  As a group we worked on patterning with lily pads and leap frogs. We strenghtened our math skills during small groups and made our own frog patterns. Be sure to check backpacks for our fun frog craft!

  • Playing in the Mud!

    CIMG6752

Today we read “Puddles” by Jonathan London. We talked about the rain and puddles and decided to make our own mud! The children helped pour in the ingredients and stir it all together. While strengthening their fine motor skills, they crushed up cookies using their hands which will help build strong muscles for writing skills! Our final product was a delicious snack!

  • WHAT DOES A ZOOKEEPER DO?

Today we learned a zookeeper prepares the food and feeds the animals every morning.  The children practiced their fine motor skills by cutting and chopping the food just like the zookeeper. After preparing the food we discussed what food each animal ate.  However, the children found it all to be very tasty!

Step Into Spring Kids Fashion Show

    Kenwood Country Club
    March 13, 2011

I think I just witnessed the future leaders of Cincinnati… if not America. On behalf of the Help Me Grow program provided by Lighthouse Youth Services, Creative Tots hosted a fashion show at Kenwood Country Club with some of the cutest kids in the Tri-State.

Hey Tyra, no need to search out winners on America’s Next Top Model, they’ve been spied right here.

Of course some of the kids were a little shy on the runway but that only served to boost the OMG/AHH factor while others had a natural swag that they brought to the show. Along with the spirited youths, audience members were delighted by the fashion—special thanks to Castle House and The Wardrobe. Proud to say I’ve bought dresses from both stores!

  • Prewriting Skills and “Wikki Stix”!

Today the children  used “Wikki Stix”  and colored electrical tape to help strengthen their  fine motor mucles and help with  eye- hand coordination.  The children were so excited to see another way to build a rocket ship! 028
