  • We are back to our normal routine after our photo day on Wednesday. Today we practiced our lacing skills during small group and free play. This is important for fine motor development and eye-hand coordination. Also, one of our groups played a game where they flipped over cards and looked at the picture on the card. They, then, had to determine whether or not the picture was a picture of something that started with a “P” or not. They picked up on the game very quickly as they listened for the beginning of the word to have that “p” sound or not. In our art small group, the children painted trees with their hands/arms. They will add leaves next week. Lots going on today!! Have a fantastic weekend!!

  • On Monday, we had fun trying out a new way of practicing name recognition! During one of our whole group times, the children each had a turn to take their little person and match it to their name. I would spell their names out loud as they matched their person with their name. Our letter for this week is “P”…so the children made “P” is for “Pasta.” They are continuing to work on their prewriting skills by practicing writing horizontal and vertical lines with their fingers in shaving cream. –Definitely a fun way to practice. ๐Ÿ™‚ They also worked on their sorting skills and letter recognition skills by sorting foam O’s and P’s on plates.

  • We stayed so busy during early 3’s today that I forgot to take many photos!! We had a lot of fun learning how our new centers work. The photos below are from our sensory table. The children LOVE playing with the animals in the corn and dry oatmeal. Today during group time we practiced our name recognition skills. The children are quickly learning to recognize their name and the letters in their name! I’m excited to see how fast they are progressing!

  • Today in the Early 3’s class we had a lot of fun exploring our new centers for the month of October!! So many new things to try and explore!! We now have a light table in our room!! We also have a “Farmer’s Market.” In one of our small groups today, we made “O” is for “Owl” by gluing feathers onto a brown “O.” Our alphabet book is growing!! I cannot wait for you all to see the finished product at the end of the year! ๐Ÿ™‚ In anotherย  small group we continued working on our pre-writing and fine-motor skills by holding a crayon and drawing a line from one sticker to another. In another small group, we worked on our number recognition and fine motor skills. We rolled balls of play dough and placed the correct number of play dough balls with the corresponding number.

  • I apologize for not posting on Monday. I was having some technical difficulties with the blog/photos! It is up and running now! I included some of Monday’s photos along with today’s photos.

    MONDAY:

We practiced writing vertical and horizontal lines. We made “M” is for “Mountain” with sponges and paint. We also continued to work on the letters in our names. Here are a few photos from the day….

    TODAY (WEDNESDAY):

Today we continued to work on our letter of the week: “M.” We practiced our fine motor skills as we glued small pieces of paper to an “M.” We painted circles (our shape of the month) with cut-up pool noodles. LOVED how these turned out. We also worked on our shape of the month by playing a matching game. Then we played “Circle or Not” where the children had to identify whether or not a shape was a circle…or not! ๐Ÿ™‚ We have begun a new name recognition activity during our second group time during the day. The children are definitely getting the hang of recognizing their names. I’m so excited!!! So much progress!!

  • Today Ms. Joanie came to our class to sing and play instruments with us! We always love having her in our class! She even brought her special gold sheet for “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.” Today we practiced holding a large crayon to draw and build our pre-writing skills. In small groups today we had fun with an “I Spy Alphabet Bag” –hair gel in a ziplock bag with foam letters. The children had to look for the first letter of their name, as well as the letter of the week (“Z”). We worked on our one-to-one correspondence by taking turns passing out sparkly pom-poms for each friend to put in their bowls. We are continuing to practice recognizing our names and the letters in our names. Today we molded play dough into the letters in our name. Hope you have a fantastic weekend! See you Monday!!

  • This week, we are continuing to focus on the letter “Z’ –what sound it makes, what it looks like, what words start with “Z”, and where it falls in the alphabet. The children practiced their fine motor skills as they glued small pieces of paper to a large “Z.” They also had fun making food coloring designs in shaving cream then transferring them to paper! Very beautiful results!! ๐Ÿ™‚ We are continuing to practice our number recognition and one-to-one correspondence.

  • Today in Early 3’s we learned the letter “Z” and its sound. We practiced our number recognition from 1 to 3. Our book for this week is “I Like Me.” Small Groups: Group #1 painted Z’s with black paint and marbles to make “Z is for Zebra.” Group #2 practiced writing out Z’s with magnetic dots. Group #3 practiced their one-to-one correspondence and fine motor skills with a peg board.

  • Today in one of our small groups, we worked on recognizing the first letter of our name and knowing the name of the letter. In another group, we practiced our fine motor skills and pre-writing skills by writing lines and shapes (with a Q-tip) on ziplock bags filled with paint. The other group worked on number recognition (numbers 1-3) by fishing for magnetic numbers. The early 3’s class is continuing to amaze me with how fast they are learning our routines and procedures! Today we started a new song called “Lettercise!” The song goes through each letter of the alphabet with its corresponding sound –while doing a little work out. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • On Wednesday, in the Early 3’s class…We practiced our pre-writing skills as we traced lines. We worked on our number recognition from 1-3 by putting the correct amount of glass beads on a paper with a corresponding number. We practiced “writing” our letter of the week by lining up circle magnets on the letter. The Early 3’s class is continuing to practice their alphabet song, lining up to go in/out of the room, waiting to eat the snack, and sitting at group time. We are curently working on raising our hands to be called on during group time.
