  • Guided Reading Groups: It is Thanksgiving

We have been working on a more difficult book during reading groups this week.  It contains our previous sight words: is ~ can along with our new word~we.  Most pages contain multiple sentences which is requiring the students to pay close attention to each and every word that they are reading as they track the words with their finger.  This book also contains missing words that the children added by listening to the sounds in the word.  They’re working hard as we continue our journey to becoming readers!

  • Outside!

Playing outside while the weather is still so nice and beautiful!

  • Group Time

During group time we introduced the letter H.

The toddlers love singing our alphabet song and having the letter visit their head!

We sing, “There’s a H on my head, on my head”

“There’s a H on my head, on my head.”

“There’s a H on my head, and /h/ is what it says.”

“There’s a H on my head, on my head.”

    Then we repeat the song.

During group time we also learned more about the square.

    We read “Square”

and talked about square objects in our classroom.

  • Guided Reading Groups: I Can Move

We finished up our reading groups today as we read, I Can Move, for the final time and then had the opportunity to work our small motor muscles as we colored the pages of our emergent readers.  The students have worked very hard this week mastering their new sight word: can.  They have done such an amazing job!  As we learned the new sight word, we reviewed its letters and sounds Cc~Aa~Nn.

  • Learning about Cows

Today we talked about cows and how they are milked. We discussed where we get milk from and how it gets there. I demonstrated how to milk a cow using a glove with water. In small groups they all got the chance to try it for themselves!

Learning to follow step by step directions to draw a cow…

  • Cooking!

Today the toddlers cooked Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins!

We dumped in all the ingredients.

Then we blended it all together.

    Baked them for 30 minutes.

And it was time to enjoy!!

  • Learning to Write Names

In Early 3’s this week, we began the exciting process of learning to write our names. This is something we will be working on the rest of the year to prepare the children for preschool…and eventually K-Prep. Learning how to write their name by the end of year will give them a head start in preschool or K-Prep and will allow the preschool and K-Prep teachers to focus on writing other words since they will already know how to write their name. Practicing at home will help them expedite this process! Have them practice writing their name in sand or shaving cream…or write it out for them in chalk and have them “paint” over it with water. Every bit of practice will help! We are also teaching them how to grip the pencil correctly. You can help them practice correct grip by breaking crayons into small pieces so that your child HAS to grip the crayon correctly because they are forced to pinch down at the bottom (just like they should on a pencil).
