This week we are working on the letter “A” in the toddler room. The boys and girls used apple stampers to make colorful art for our classroom. We practiced counting to 3 and worked on color recognition: red, green, and yellow!

The Early 3’s pretended they were birds eating worms today when they used clothespins (birds) to pick up pipe cleaners (worms). This was a fun way to incorporate learning into play. We talked about the ways birds use their beaks to pick up worms and eat them. The children enjoyed picking up the worms and also strengthened their pincher grip!
The Early 3’s have been working on recognizing squares this month! Today they used their fine motor skills to stick red glitter squares inside of bigger squares. They worked on counting and one to one correspondence as they counted each square.
We were astounded at the turnout at our art show again this year. The children have been working so hard over the past two months on all of their masterpieces and we were so excited to see all of the families come out and celebrate their accomplishments with them! It’s amazing what children can accomplish when given the opportunity and the right tools. We are so very proud of each and every one of them. It was their night to shine and we were honored to be a part of if. A BIG thank you to Ms. Penny who helped create such wonderful art experiences for our students in the preschool and pre-k classes. Her enthusiasm and excitement for teaching children about art and the famous artists that came before us sparks the imagination of our young students in a way that makes them feel like anything is possible at any age.
We learned last week how some Native Americans, long ago, used to use large tree trunks to carve into boats, called canoes. We also reviewed the symbols that some native americans used to communicate and tell stories. We incorporated some of these symbols onto our own canoes during small groups.
