  • All About Triangles

Our group time activity this week is all about triangles! During group time the boys and girls stood on a triangle that Ms. Laurel taped to the floor. Then, the children counted the sides of the triangle. After that, they had a chance to come up to the board and match a triangle. The boys and girls were very busy!

  • Spider Tracks

This month is all about spiders. So during art, we experimented with painting with spiders! This activity had the children’s fine motor skills working, picking up those little spiders and stamping them on the paper. It is exciting to paint with something other than a paint brush!

  • Autumn Orange

This week during group time we read Autumn Orange by Christianne C. Jones. Ms. Laurel had a bag full of different items and each child was given a chance to pull out an object to identify. We encouraged the boys and girls to tell the class what they had found! Everything was orange!

  • The Itsy Bitsy Spider

We are introducing spiders this month! In the toddler room, we have fun doing activities that engage the boys and girls with developing their fine motor skills. With this activity the children had a chance to put the spiders on the web and take them off. Some of the boys and girls did not even want to touch the spiders! It was a very sticky web!

  • Building and Illustrating a Sentence in Reading Groups

Our reading group book this week was titled, Birds, by Bruce Larkin.  We focused on the sight words this and is throughout the book.  The students were also introduced to the reading strategy, looking for a small word in a big word (i.e. is in this).  After reading the book all week, we created our own sentences and designed an illustration to match.  The students also put into practice their new knowledge of creating an interesting illustration by adding details.  They did a GREAT job!
