We have been talking about rectangles this month. We have been talking about how rectangles have four sides and are longer than squares. Today, we looked for rectangles in our city landscape pictures!
The early 3’s worked on matching today! They looked for each pair of mittens match! They had to look at the color and pattern on each mitten and figure out which one looked the same! Sometimes it was tricky when there was just a small difference, and other times it was a little easier to spot when their were a lot of differences.
The Toddlers have been talking about all things winter this month. During group time, we have been going over clothing that keeps you warm when it’s cold outside. During art, the boys and girls took turns decorating mittens with rectangles (our shape of the month). We went over shape and color recognition as they used fine motor skills to make their art.
One of our learning objectives this month is the concept of top, middle, and bottom. We decided to build a felt snowman to go over this objective. The children enjoy building the snowman by adding parts of his body, adding a face, and finishing off their creation with a scarf and hat! The boys and girls worked as a team and did a great job taking turns.
We have been talking about igloos, icerbergs, cold weather, and the kinds of clothes you wear in the cold here in the early 3’s. Today we put on our winter gear to build an igloo out of blocks! The children used their fine motor muscles to put on their gear and their gross motor to build the igloos.
We practiced our fine motor muscles and hand-eye coordination while imagining what it is like to catch dinner if we were visiting Antarctica. The preschoolers have made a lot of progress with their fine motor muscles this school year, this serves as great foundation for handwriting skills and self-help skills (buttons, zippers, mittens).
With winter here in full swing it is hard to get rid of our wiggles and giggles. Playing outside is extremely important for little ones to expel energy and exercise gross motor muscles. When it is too cold to go outside we try to use our bodies in the classroom as much as possible. Here are a few of our preschoolers favorite Music and Movement songs if you are looking for a way to shake those wiggles out!
