The Toddlers have been strengthening their fine motor skills. The boys and girls used clothespins to move pom poms into colored cups. The children worked on color recognition and sorting… they did a great job!
Gross motor skills are movements that help children develop large muscle control in arms, legs and the entire body. As a toddler, it is important that your child keep exercising these muscles to enable her to run, jump, throw, climb, etc. Due to the cold and wet weather, we have been working on these movements inside. We practiced tossing balls into a bucket, jumping from circle to circle, and building with blocks.
Scissor skills, proper form, and cutting ability is an ongoing process in the preschool years. Strong fine motor muscles and an understanding of how to hold scissors both play a role in scissor skill development. The preschools today were introduced to cutting continuously rather than just snips. This is a skill that requires practice, practice, practice! We made our very own batch of snow play dough today in small groups. We measured and mixed the ingredients found on the recipe to create a wonderful bowl full of fun. Our special ingredient was of course…glitter to make it sparkle like freshly fallen snow.
