  • Fun Fall on the Farm

We have had so much fun with fall and farm activities in the toddler room this month.  Lots of sensory experiences have been planned to help explore and learn. An apple peeler provided us with fine motor practice, yummy snack, and cute photo opportunity. Watercolor, glue, and other art mediums were provided to create fall foxes, scarecrows, and leaves.  Old McDonald has been a favorite classic to sing and play with instruments.  We discussed things that we were thankful for and talked about foods that families eat on Thanksgiving Day.   We are so thankful for our toddlers and their families!

  • Happy Thanksgiving!

The Preschool class enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving together and eating the wonderful feast they prepared!

  • Prepping for our Thanksgiving Feast!

  • Class Thanksgiving Feast!

Leading up to our class Thanksgiving feast, we talked all about how the first Thanksgiving came about!

We discussed that the Pilgrims came to America on the Mayflower and met the Indians who taught them how to hunt and farm in the Spring time. At the end of their harvest they had a feast to celebrate their hard work and new found friendship. We brought this all back to the student’s own lives and how it connected to their Thanksgiving today. As a class, we decided that the holiday was based around appreciation and being thankful for what we have 🙂 We made a list of what we were most thankful for on the board following this exercise.

To help us better understand the  story of Thanksgiving, we retold it together as we created a symbolic necklace.  Each colored bead on the string symbolized a part of the story. The kids had fun making the necklaces and it helped them to remember the story in a unique way! We sent a key home to parents so they could talk about the Thanksgiving necklaces outside of the classroom.

Just like the Pilgrims and Indians, we prepped our food for our feast!

And then we got to enjoy it together!!

  • Fall Leaves and Thankfulness Trees!

Fall season is coming to an end, but we have had so much fun with the colors of Fall, and the leaves that come from trees in the Fall. We also had some Thanksgiving stories, art projects, and got to make our own mini apple pies for a Thanksgiving treat in school! We are so thankful for all of our students in the toddler classroom.

Painting our leaves for our Thankfulness Tree! Each child got to paint their leaf, and then tell us what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving season 🙂

  • Preschool Thanksgiving Feast

The preschool class celebrated their Thanksgiving Feast last week.  The week leading up to it, we learned a little about the first Thanksgiving and prepared almost all of the food that we ate.

We made homemade applesauce in the crockpot.  We got to crank the apple peeler and break the slices apart.

We made homemade bread by mixing it in a Ziploc bag.  We squished it in the bag to get it all mixed up after taking turns adding the ingredients.

We also made our own butter by shaking heavy cream.  We had to shake for a VERY LONG time!

Then on Monday and Tuesday we got enjoy all our hard work and eat the food we made as well as some turkey and mashed potatoes!  We wore special pilgrim hats too and had such a fun time!
