Our Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe

by Ms. Manda

Gingerbread Play-Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup flour
  • 1/2 Cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • Spices--Cinnamon, Allspice, Ginger, Nutmeg

What you do:

Mix the dry ingredients. Add spices a small amount at a time until the dough smells and looks like you want it too. Mix water and oil together first and then add them to the dry ingredients and stir. In a pot, cook the mixture for two to three minutes, stirring frequently. The dough will start to pull away from the sides of the pot and stick together. When this happens, take the playdough out of the pan and knead the dough until it becomes soft and smooth. Allow the dough to cool and then store it in an airtight container.

"Nn" is for necklace

N is for necklace

This afternoon at group time we learned the letter “N”.  For our art project today we made necklaces for the letter “N”.  Here you can see Rutva, Caroline and Connor working so hard at stringing the beads onto their necklaces.  They did a wonderful job working with those fine motor skills to make beautiful necklaces!

This month we are learning about different nursery rhymes.  The kids worked really hard creating this beautiful mural of the nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle Diddle”.  Each class made a different part of the nursery rhymes to create the whole rhyme.  They loved watching as each piece was added to the mural!

treasure hunting at the sensory table

treasure hunting at the sensory table

This week we have added rice and colorful jewels to our sensory table!  The kids have loved feeling the texture of the rice and sorting through it to find the shiny and colorful jewels!  We had quite a crowd at the sensory table today scooping and dumping the rice over and over again!  The rice was used for many different things today.  Some kids were “building houses” while others were “cooking different foods.”  The jewels were also a big hit for finding “treasure” and talking about the different colors.

Cooking with children is a wonderful way to teach them the benefits of measuring, numbers and working as a group.

Cooking with children is a wonderful way to teach them the benefits of measuring, numbers and working as a group.

Today we worked together to make apple crisp!  We sat around the table and talked about how we use measuring cups to help us make different kinds of foods.  For our apple crisp recipe we measured flour, sugar, and baking powder and stirred it all together.  We sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on top of our crisp apples and put it in the oven to bake!  The kids loved the smell of our wonderful creation as we all sat and ate it for snack!

pumpkintextures

Shape, pattern, and texture are properties important not only in art but in science and math as well. Preschoolers need engaging opportunities to explore these concepts.

Evelyn is very concentrated on exploring the pumpkins and gourds from our science shelf!  She is using her magnifying glass to really study the different bumps on the pumpkins.  She was talking about the different colors and shapes on the pumpkins and even moved positions to get a really good look!

We encourage you to participate – Thank you for your comments. We love to hear from all of you!
