The Great Outdoors Summer Camp

May 29, 2010 pre-K, preschool No Comments
by Ms. Manda

The first week of summer camp was full of adventures…the Children’s Museum Center joined our classroom to teach us about Wonderful Weather!  We made our own snow, learned about the electricity that is created by lightening and experimented with the power of air and wind.  We got a little messy as we dug for real night crawlers in the sensory table on the playground.  Water Wednesday was a hit with Splish Splashing Fun in our bubble pools.  We ended the week with a bike ride with our friends and a pizza party with popsicles!  We’re looking forward to next week’s Cooking Camp!

We Live on Earth

February 17, 2010 Toddlers No Comments
by Ms. Sarah

Today we talked about Earth and how it is the only planet that people live on.  We talked about how the blue part is all of the water on our planet and the green part is the land that we live on.  The kids were able to create their own Earth by coloring their “Earth” with blue and green markers and then spraying it with water to make the colors spread.  Earth 004Earth 005

We have been talking about rocketships blasting into space and doing many countdowns as a class!  This afternoon we experimented with a balloon, straw, and piece of string during group time.  We asked the question “what do you think will happen if I blew up this balloon attached to the straw and then let it go?”balloon rocket 010We balloon rocket 013

Air is All Around Us

February 4, 2010 preschool No Comments
by Ms. Manda

Today in small groups, Ms. Lori read the book, Air is All Around You, then we did some experiments with air.  In the morning, we placed a small paper towel in the bottom of a tall glass.  We turned the glass upside down and placed it slowly into the water.  We watched in amazement as the paper towel stayed dry!  We learned that a pocket of air protected the paper towel from the water.   In the afternoon class we discovered that we can produce air and use it to move things!  We tested different objects to see if we could move them with our own air!

We learned about a special kind of animal that lives in China today…the Panda!

We learned that Pandas are born pink, that they love to climb trees, play and eat bamboo.  We also learned that in order to keep keep these panda’s safe we must make sure that their homes are not destroyed.

We read books about the Panda and watched a special video with Ms. Lori with real Pandas!
