  • The Snowy Owl of Alaska

We explored Alaska’s Snowy Owl in PreK today.  Then, we worked on strengthening our fine motor muscles as we created our own Snowy Owl by tearing white paper and gluing it into the shape of a Snowy Owl.  Click on the picture below to watch the video we viewed during group time about the Snowy Owl.

  • The -all Word Family Home

We created a home for our new word family today.  Our focus this week is the -all family.  This one is a bit tricky because we cannot sound out the word all, it is a true sight word that we must be able to recognize by sight only.  We added -all family members to our homes and took them home to read to our own families.

  • Sorting and Counting Fun

The Early 3’s worked hard on counting and sorting items this week. They had fun using tweezers to pick up small items and sort them into their correct bins. They also counted and sorted eggs using their fingers.

  • Playground Science

Who needs a teacher to create a science experiment when you can find one for yourself on the playground. The Early 3’s discovered that dirt gets wet when you dig deep into the ground. They were super excited to find what creatures dwell in that damp soil.

  • Small Group Fun!

Last week the Toddlers explored the theme of birds. During small groups, the children took turns matching shapes on eggs. They used their fine motor skills to put the eggs together and pull them apart. They also painted ovals (our shape of the month) with feathers!

  • Forest Habitat Paper Collage

We used a variety of textured papers today to create our own forest habitat.  We have been learning about the forest habitat of Alaska this month and the animals who make their homes there.  We have focused on the Great Gray Owl and Bald Eagle.  Next week we will be talking about many more animals that we may find among the trees of the forests of Alaska.  Click on the picture below to see the video we watched to learn about the Bald Eagle.

  • Number Word Recognition

We focused last week on number words while reading the book, Lost Feathers by Bruce Larkin.  Our week was full of number word activities including coloring by number word and graphing a number word.  We are becoming better readers every day in preparation for Kindergarten!  Kindergarten Here We Come!

  • Tweet! Tweet!

This week the Toddlers have been learning about birds. During art, the children took turns making contact paper birds. They used their fine motor skills to add the tissue paper on sheet at a time!
